Dear Penn Family,
Summer vacations are behind us and the school year is starting. I hope you and your family had a “relaxing” summer. We had a very positive orientation and meet the teacher days on Aug 25th and 26th. Thanks for all who were able to attend. We are very excited about the coming year. We have big plans including expanding our video announcement throughout the year with many opportunities for students to be “on the air” or behind the cameras this year.
We are having our Back to School Nights (BTSN) on two separate nights to help reduce traffic and parking issues. BTSN for K, 1, and 5 is on Monday 9/26 at 6:30; BTSN for 2,3, and 4 is on Tuesday 9/27. We look forward to further sharing classroom expectations and procedures on these nights. Also, our first book fair will be running from Sept 23- Oct 3. You are encouraged to stop by the classroom, visit the encore teachers (Art, Music, PE), go to the cafeteria to get information about the PTO, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and finish up with the Scholastic Book Fair in our Library… all on one night!
Couple reminders for all parents. The county has published an updated Right to Special Programs/Services letter. This has to do with parents’ rights to services for all children and particularly those who have special needs. Please open the link to review.
Also for parents, later during the year in the spring our staff will teach Family Life Education in accordance with the following curriculum. This link will give you access to all elementary grades, please open the grade you are interested in.
If you wish to opt out your child out… please complete the this form. LINK to OPT OUT LETTER AND FORM No action is required on your part unless you wish to Opt-Out your child from this training.
We will remind all parents of the Family Life Education program shortly prior to the instruction in the spring.
Clear and timely communication between teachers and parents can be the key to a successful year for your student. If you have a question or issue with a teacher, please contact the teacher early for clarification. If you are not satisfied, please don’t hesitate to contact either me, Mrs. Berkman, or Mrs. Simpson for further assistance. Another valuable means of communication is our web site. The school and county web sites have the most up-to-date information on special activities, PTO events, and reminders.
Attention all active duty, retired, former, and reserve military parents/relatives: On Thursday, November 10th (The holiday is Friday, Nov. 11th for Veterans Day), you are invited to our Veteran’s Day Celebration with doors opening at 8:30 to share donuts, coffee, and juice with your children. It ends at approximately 9:30 following our flag pole celebration with the entire school. Uniforms encouraged… more information to follow… please mark your calendars.
