About our Class: The Autism 3-5 room is a combination of self-contained and pull out classes that collaborate with the general education teachers of each grade level. We work on the same content and skills, but in a smaller class size which allows for more individualized and specialized instruction. We implement all the accommodations specified in your child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and strive to help each student work to their full potential.

Weekly learning activities are posted each Monday in the FILES AND DOCUMENTS section under each grade levels folder. They can also be found on the grade level general education teacher pages.

5th Grade Promotio
n Information:

     SAVE THE DATE!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On Wednesday, June 1Oth the Fifth Grade Class will be having a drive through promotion ceremony to celebrate their achievements throughout the year. In order to provide safety for everyone, we will be following CDC guidelines of social distancing and wearing masks, if necessary. Please refer to the attached map (in the 5th grade files & documents section) for directions about how to proceed through the parking lot and bus loop during the ceremony.

This will be a RAIN OR SHINE event!

Instructions for the ceremony:

  1. Students and family members will drive to the front of the school and line up in the car rider area (only one car per family).
  2. We are requesting families to make a sign with the student’s full name to make it easier for the staff to identify the student. Families may also decorate their cars, cheer, and honk their horns for the celebration.
  3. Cars should identify themselves to the staff as they pull in to the car rider line.
  4. Staff will hand them their promotion certificate, awards and a bag containing their desk and cubby items from the classroom. Also, yearbooks and pictures (if ordered) can be picked up.
  5. Library books and any other Penn items such as laptops or textbooks should be returned at this time. Families with younger students at Penn may keep the laptops for summer use.
  6. Family members and students will stay in their cars and proceed to the back of the building.
  7. Cars will enter the bus loop and stop at door 11.
  8. The Classroom Teacher will announce the students and recognize awards earned over the sound system.
  9. Student may roll down their window and wave to other cars and staff members.
  10. Once the student is recognized, the car should continue through the bus circle and exit the parking lot to allow more cars to come in.
  11. Due to the large number of students and limited time, it is important to come at the designated time for your class and teacher. If you can’t make it during that time slot, arrangements can be made to pick up personal items and awards at another time.
  12. For safety purposes, do not pass another vehicle that is in line or get out of your car.
  13. Follow the directions on the map to proceed through the parking lot.

This is the schedule for June 10, 2020:

9:30-10:00-  Walczuk/Dawson

10:15-10:45- Henry/Sihrer

11:00-11:30- Kanevsky/Dawson

Prince William County Schools are on Spring Break until April 13, which is a teacher work day. No new resources will be posted for next week, but students can still access all the materials posted previously on my website or grade level content teacher websites.

Starting April 14, students will be expected to participate in 60 minutes per day of instruction/activities which will be provided. I will also be offering 60 minutes of "office hours" to help with work or answer any questions.

If you had an IEP scheduled that had to be cancelled due to the closure, we are working on rescheduling them as soon as possible. Meeting invitation notices will be sent to you electronically via the email listed on your school emergency contact form. If you have an alternate email you would prefer I use, please respond to this message.

Lastly, I know all the grade levels have been holding virtual/zoom class meetings and I have been able to attend some of them. (So much fun to see all the kids!). If your child has an interest in doing a separate zoom meeting with just our self-contained class, please let me know and I will set it up. I will continue to pop in to all the other classes to say "Hi' and check in with students whenever I am able.

As always, please reach out with you questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability. Stay healthy!

-Ms. Martin
