Ms. Bartenstein-Speech Therapist

Hello to all my speech friends and families!

I miss seeing all of you for speech each week and around our school.  Please stay healthy and active each day, and make sure to keep reading. Even though we are not at school, please remember what we practice in speech by focusing on your speech sounds, maintain your fluency skills, and use full sentences to communicate.

Parents- Please continue to read with your child, as it is so valuable for modeling and practicing speech sounds, grammar skills, vocabulary and sentence structure. You can ask questions about the book you read together, have them read aloud and practice their speech sounds, and/or have them tell you about the story that they read, listening for their speech skills.
Feel free to reach out any time.  I am available through e-mail if you have questions or would like some more specific resources. I check email often and will get back to you as soon as I can.

Here are some activity ideas for practicing speech sounds and language skills at home:

  • Play family games such as Uno, Go Fish, Candyland, Sorry, Guess Who, Pictionary
  • Go for a walk or ride your bike. See how many different category items you can find outside (e.g. birds, flowers, cars, colors). Create your own categories.
  • Write a letter or email to friends and family members.
  • Use sidewalk chalk outside to practice writing words you know, shapes, animals or create maps.
  • Play ‘I Spy’ and have others ask questions to guess what you spy. Take Turns.
  • Play a riddle game. Think of an object and use full sentences to describe it. Have others guess what you are describing. Take turns.
  • Cook together. Search and choose recipes online or from cookbooks. Practice reading/sorting/measuring ingredients and following directions. Be safe.

I look forward to seeing you again soon.
