Parent Update – April 18, 2024

Dear PENN Parents and Guardians –

Sad but exciting news:  Mrs. Simpson, who has been our Assistant Principal for the past 7 years… and who has been at PENN for the past 11 years… is retiring at the end of June this summer.  Mrs. Simpson has been a key member of the PENN staff and will be sorely missed.  However, we are very excited for her as she begins this next phase of her life with her family…

Attendance continues to challenge some of our families.  We have moved up to nearly 12% of our students being considered chronically absent.  Please do your best to have your students here every day! 

SOL Testing is beginning soon.  Our 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grade students will be taking their Standards of Learning (SOL) test in the coming weeks.  It is important for them to be here on time and well rested.  The main days are noted below.  A number of students may be testing in a small group and their teachers will be sure you are aware of their testing days.  Please try to avoid scheduling any events on these days that will require a student to arrive late, leave early, or be absent. 

Parent Input:  We are beginning the process of building the classes for next school year… 2024-25.   The Parent Input Document will be going home Friday, April 19th.  Please take a few minutes to  complete the form if you have specific information concerning placement for next year or if you are not returning to Penn next school year.  Forms need to be returned to your child’s teacher no later than Friday, May 10, 2024

Field Day:  Field Day will be Friday May 24^th.  We will be looking for parent volunteers to help during the day.  Be on the lookout for more information.

• June 7^th -   Last Day of School 12:40 Dismissal
